Harvest CFC began as a small group in a home in the Silver Springs community of NW Calgary in September of 1990. Richard & Margaret Graham had been serving as assistant pastors in a local church in Cochrane, Alberta.  The church leadership team had been praying about the possibility of a church plant in Calgary that would demonstrate the love and grace of God in a very tangible way and Richard & Margaret began to sense the stirring of the Holy Spirit to step out in faith and plant this new work. After a season of prayer and fasting, the call was confirmed and within a number of months they left the comfort of their close knit church community in Cochrane to see what God would do. After a brief 6 weeks of meeting in the Silver Springs home they ventured out as 5 adults and 4 children to meet in the library of St. Rita’s school in the Ranchlands community in NW Calgary.

They quickly moved into the Ranchlands Community Center and that became their church home for 15 years and in that time saw God do many exciting things that constantly reminded the growing community of God’s love and faithfulness. In 2005, they took another leap of faith and moved over to the Dalhousie Community Centre in the Dalhousie community. It was a great location to grow in as it could accommodate 350 people which was about 4 times bigger than Ranchlands.

Dalhousie was home to Harvest CFC until September of 2012. After 22 years of setting up and taking down church every weekend; the leadership team took a fresh initiative of faith and began looking at the possibilities of using another church facility at a time when they were not using it. Of course this meant that we would more than likely have to give up our Sunday morning slot as that is when most churches are using their facility.

After pursuing a few options we eventually found a church in the NW that was willing to explore the possibilities. On September of 2012 we moved to the upstairs Fellowship Hall of North West Family Church and began holding our regular services at 5:30 PM on Sunday nights. The facility has been a great blessing and the flexibility to use it during the week continues to be a great asset that we enjoy and value.

In March of 2014 we successfully transitioned back to Sunday morning services at North West Family Church. Our new time of 9:30 AM has created a new momentum as people love the idea of starting their Sunday with God!

Today, the adventure continues. We are confident that it was Christ that caused Harvest CFC to be planted and today we are just as confident that Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit, is constantly helping us to accomplish all that he had in mind for us to do. Our passion to build a worshipping community continues to grow. Our unwavering commitment to the message of Grace has caused many lives to be transformed and changed over the years. The journey has never been boring and we are so thankful for the many good things Christ has done in our midst over the last 26 years. We count it a great privilege to have been included in his plans for our great city.

Stay tuned for the next chapter …
