DAY ONE – Pray That Your Faith is Focused

Hebrews 11:6 NIV … without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

In a world of a million distractions it takes intentional effort to stir up the gift of faith! As we begin this 21 days of prayer and fasting it is important to be reminded that is our faith that pleases God. It takes faith to pray to a God that we can’t see in the natural but our scripture reading makes it clear that God rewards those who exercise their faith by earnestly seeking him!

Jesus demonstrated this kind of faith-filled interaction with His Father when he would pause, look heavenward and give thanks just before performing the miracle of feeding five thousand people with only 5 loaves and 2 small fish.

Matthew 14:19 NIV And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.

His eyes of faith were focused intentionally on His Father to “see” and “hear” what He had in mind for the situation at hand. Today we are blessed to have the Holy Spirit to stir up the gift of faith within us and to supernaturally remind us that God will reward us when we earnestly seek him.

TODAY’S INTENTIONAL PRAYER FOCUS:

PRAY FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD TO BE FIRMLY ESTABLISHED IN YOUR OWN LIFE FIRST!

Jesus said: Luke 17:20-21 NIV Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, (21) nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.

PRAYER FOR THE DAY: Gracious Father I come to you today with a heartfelt desire to earnestly seek you. The Word assures me that if I seek I will be rewarded and one of the greatest rewards I can receive is the realization that The Kingdom of God is within ME!  With this in mind, I am asking that I may fully embrace the magnificence of your Kingdom within my mind, within my spirit, within my soul and within my whole being! As you have taught us that it is out of the overflow of the heart that our mouth speaks; please let my heart overflow with Kingdom life, Kingdom promises, Kingdom values, Kingdom authority and Kingdom purpose so that my words, actions and attitudes will be influenced by your Kingdom within me. Rid me of all distractions that keep me from hearing and seeing You. As I deny my flesh, I pray that I will grow closer and stronger in my daily walk with You. May I stay in step and in tune with You as I refocus my mind, body, and spirit back to Christ. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.

PRACTICE FOR THE DAY: As you go about your day today; keep in mind that The Kingdom of God is within you! That means that Christ should be Lord of every area of your life, so a healthy start for our 21 day prayer and fasting time, would be to ask Him to give fresh direction to your life and to ask Him to correct you if you have allowed anything to compromise the integrity of His Kingdom within you. It’s always good to do a heart check to ensure you are not carrying any offences, unforgiveness, sin, bitterness, bad attitudes or any other unhealthy responses to life, that may have quenched or diluted the Kingdom of God within you. As you go about your day keep looking for the Kingdom to be revealed both within you and around you! Remember also that Christ instructed us to pray “on earth as it is in heaven”, once we get that perspective then everything will change. There is no place, situation or circumstance on earth that will not benefit from us praying for the Kingdom of Heaven to Come and transform our world.
